CHROMA SOMA・A SOIL STUDY

In Ancient Greek ‘Chroma’ means colour, and ‘Soma’ means body. Chroma Soma is a small soil study based in the Roussillon. The idea is to focus on single varieties coming from different soil profiles throughout the Roussillon, and in the end comparing not only different vintages, but as well different expressions of soil. I talk about body and colour because in order to focus on a purity of fruit I try to exclude any components that can potentially mask that fruit which directly presents elements coming from the soil. Thus far, I do not make whole cluster vinifications, I make very limited extractions, and am working with only neutral oak and sandstone during elevage. Through this process the tannic structure is significantly different than a classically vinified wine from this region. The final product is a wine of brilliant ruby colour that presents a soft and delicate texture, with a striking backbone of freshness. Chroma Soma.

Every year, Marcel and I select different parcels within the domaine for me to vinify individually as Chroma Soma. These parcels are each unique in their varieties, soil composition and microclimate. Through these vinifications I have the privilege  to witness the purest expression of each plot. These wines, born from different soils and grape varieties, represent the essence of their individual vineyards in their most elemental form. They serve as the bare bone representations of the individual vineyards, offering a glimpse into the intricate complexities and nuances that define each terroir. Through this meticulous process of selection and vinification, I aim to capture the true essence of our vineyards and showcase the diversity of our domaine's terroir.
